Xinjiang has a very important strategic position. Its economic development is of political significance.
Xinjiang borders 8 foreign countries, with a border line of more than 5400 kilometers. Xinjiang is China’s largest ethnic communities, hosting 21 open ports, ranking first in China in terms of the number of open ports, and more than 60 open counties and cities.
Xinjiang’s first private airline company has been approved by the National Civil Aviation Administration of China, which will open a new “air freight Silk Road” for the air cargo industry in Xinjiang, transporting sounds from Tianjin Port to Urumqi in three hours, connecting Tianjin, Urumqi and Islamabad logistics circles and promoting economic development between them.
Xinjiang has formed its aviation, highway and railway transport networks. Xinjiang hosts Lanzhou-Urumqi, Urumqi-Xining, Urumqi-Lhasa highways centering on Urumqi, Lanzhou-Urumqi, South Xinjiang and North Xinjiang railways, flights to Beijing, Lanzhou, Xi’an and Shanghai, as well as Hami, Kuqa, Yining, Hotan and Kashgar, and certain international flights. Xinjiang ranks first in China in terms of the number of land ports, with an annual shipment of sounds of 5 million tons. Lanzhou-Urumqi Railway across Xinjiang has made the ancient Silk Road a modern Eurasian Continental Bridge, making it available for passengers and sounds to transfer from East Asia to Western Europe. Xinjiang has formed its integrated transport system consisting of railways, highways, aviation and pipelines. Xinjiang hosts 7 railways with a total length of 3,009 kilometers, highways with total length of 40,498 kilometers and 11 civil airports. Urumqi-Lanzhou refined oil pipeline with a huge investment has a designed annual oil transport capacity of 8 million tons to 10 million tons. Xinjiang Shanshan-Gansu Lanzhou crude oil pipeline is expected to commence later this year, with a designed annual transport capacity of not less than 10 million tons.
It is planned to build Kashgar-Kyrgyz railway, making Xinjiang host 2 international railways. Xinjiang has a highway mileage of about 50,000 kilometers, including a expressway mileage of about 500 kilometers. Xinjiang ranks first in China in terms of the local air transport network accessing major cities of China and neighboring countries. Xinjiang has China’s largest wind power plant. Abundant energy resources ensure fast economic development of Xinjiang. Operation of the trunk optical cable network will meet the needs of communication links and information exchange at home and abroad.
As a hub of the Eurasian Continental Bridge, with geopolitical advantage of opening outside, Xinjiang will accelerate introducing investment from abroad and establishing lateral ties at home and transferring from a traditional inland economy to an export-oriented economy.
